Engagement- When a man and women competent to marry, have with the consent of their parents, of their own free will, unconditionally promised to marry each other, they are rightfully engaged or bethrothed and before God and the church are regarded as husband and wife. Read Gen. 2: 21-24 and Matt. 1:18-20. Christians must not break an engagement since it is not a trial and must be entered into thoughtfully and prayfully. For good order and a witness to the world an engaged couple must not to live together until formally married in a public ceremony, exchanging vows, and their marriage registered with the government making it legally binding.
Christians are not to live together before marriage as is commonly practiced in today’s society. Read the booklet ‘Second thoughts about living together’. This is fornication and sinful.
